The Cinque Terre

Thanks to its privileged geographic location, Forte dei Marmi offers easy and quick access – by car or train – to some of the most beautiful destinations along the Ligurian coast. From the Forte dei Marmi-Seravezza-Querceta railway station, direct trains connect to the port city of La Spezia, the gateway to the celebrated Gulf of Poets and renowned seaside towns such as Lerici and Portovenere. From La Spezia Centrale, frequent trains depart for Sestri Levante, Santa Margherita Ligure, Portofino, and the breathtaking Cinque Terre, a coastline defined by crystal-clear waters, beaches, and rugged cliffs, postcard-perfect villages, and hiking trails of extraordinary beauty.

RIOMAGGIORE

Directly overlooking the sea, Riomaggiore is ideal for those seeking a romantic atmosphere. The breakwater offers some of the most memorable sunsets in the Cinque Terre. An iconic setting that also inspired Disney’s animated film Luca.

MANAROLA

A village of enchanting atmospheres, with winding lanes, small piazzas, and gentle elevation changes. From the headland, sweeping views open over the village, while near the harbor, flat rocks invite visitors to relax in the sun, surrounded by the sea.

CORNIGLIA

Set atop a cliff nearly 330 feet above sea level, Corniglia is crisscrossed by many trails and is especially appealing to nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts.

VERNAZZA

Of medieval origin, Vernazza rises dramatically from the sea atop a striking rocky promontory. Its magical and mysterious lanes wind between colorful houses, leading down to a charming harbor with a small beach.

MONTEROSSO

Rocky and dignified – described by Nobel Prize-winning poet Eugenio Montale as a haven for fishermen and farmers – Monterosso is the largest of the Cinque Terre villages. Particularly well suited for families, it features a charming, colorful medieval old town and a lively seaside promenade lined with gelaterias, wine bars, and cafés.

Traveling by train from Forte dei Marmi also makes it possible to reach Genoa, though the journey requires one connection. From the Forte dei Marmi-Seravezza-Querceta station, travelers change trains at Massa, where direct service continues on to Genoa. A former Maritime Republic, Genoa is rich in history. Among its major attractions is the Acquario di Genova, the largest aquarium in Europe. From Genoa, public transportation provides easy access to destinations such as Portofino and Santa Margherita Ligure.
